Forty cards out, sixty-four to come, one pass. Leave as few as you can.
Forty Thieves deals forty cards face up into ten columns and keeps the other sixty-four in the stock. Build eight foundations from ace to king, each in one suit, and stack the columns down by suit. You move one card at a time; a suited run moves together only if it could go card by card through your empty columns, and any card can fill an empty column. The stock deals one card at a time, once through, and undo can't take a deal back, so plan before you turn a card. Every deal here has been won by a solver from the start, but most games end with cards left, and that's your score: fewer is better, with a faster time breaking ties. Once the stock is empty you can end the game whenever you like.
